What does it mean, a ‘greener classroom’? Does it mean we need to paint the walls green? Or hang green blinds on the window?
Well, as much as that would make the room more relaxing, a green classroom means doing things that are better for the environment.
Here are 5 things we can do to make our classroom ‘greener’
- Open the blinds and use as much natural light as possible (that means switching off the lights in the classroom)
- If you had to switch the lights on, remember to switch them off when you leave.
- Minimise paper, so print less handouts / double-sided.
- Encourage learners to bring in recyclable water bottles (not plastic bottles of water)
- Use eco-friendly stationery or encourage your college to undertake initiatives such as a pen recycle scheme.
We asked some students at the local school what else we could do and they suggested we could have some plants in the classroom, recycle bins, vegetarian meals in the school cafe, and we should share what we are doing on social media.
I think these are all great ideas! I hope you can make you classroom greener too!
But as this website is largely about how we use songs – what song would you use in a green lesson? 🙂
