Refresher – Using Songs & Lyrics in the classroom
This June, Chris was at NATECLA 2024, delivering yet another well-received and entertaining workshop entitled Music and Songs in the Classroom -a Refresher session. And that is exactly what that was – a recap of the main reasons to use songs in the ELT/ESOL classroom. Chris reminded us that songs are the ultimate resource for a number of reasons, which include:
- A myriad of uses
- Is there another text type so short and yet so useful?
- Mood transforming – they can transform the way listeners feel.
- Ubiquitous – YouTube, Spotify & lyrics sites the possibilities are endless.
- Big picture / little picture.
In addition, Chris shared an array of versatile lesson ideas that could be adapted to any level or lesson. But perhpaps, one of the best perks of the session were the actual refresher sweets that he shared with everyone present!
